Making Room For Innovation

March 10, 2017

Last month we officially opened our new Center for Innovation. This is something I have been working on for quite a while and I can’t tell you how exciting it was to finally stand in the new space and share our vision for what it will one day become. The new facility was renovated with the specific purpose of bringing together the nonprofit, for-profit and government sectors to facilitate innovation and entrepreneurism. Read more...

Immigration Executive Order

January 29, 2017

Tallahassee Community College is concerned about the impact of the Trump Administration’s recent executive order that prohibits citizens from seven majority-Muslim nations from entering the United States for at least the next 90 days. Thus new travel/border policy has created uncertainty and confusion among our students, faculty and staff. Read more...

Hitting the Ground Running

January 13, 2017

Now that we’ve wrapped the 50th anniversary, people are already asking me where I think Tallahassee Community College will go in the next 50 years. While I cannot imagine the changes in degrees and programs that will occur long term, we will remain faithful to the principles TCC was founded on and continue to be demand-driven and student-focused. Reflections on Our 50th

December 13, 2016

Third employee hired at TCC Dorothy In Tallahassee Community College’s 50th Anniversary video, “Celebrating a Legacy, Building a Future” Dot Binger, the third employee hired by Tallahassee Community College in 1966, said “You need always be grateful for founders.” That quote has stuck with me throughout this year as we looked back at the rich history of this College. Being at the helm during such a milestone anniversary has been both a privilege and a far greater responsibility than many realize. I credit this to a shared passion we all have to see our students succeed.

To the Class of 2016

April 26, 2016

One day last week I happened to look out my office window and saw a familiar sight for this time of year – a student dressed in full graduation regalia taking pictures with her friends in front of the Tallahassee Community College sign. That day had been a particularly demanding one, but as I witnessed the soon-to-be-graduate’s pride in her achievement and her alma mater all my concerns were momentarily set aside. Read more...

Together We Rise

April 4, 2016

As most of you know, 2016 is our 50th anniversary as a college. Over the course of those 50 years we have grown and changed, sometimes in response to changing needs and often as a result of inspired leaders whose vision and leadership guided the college through periods of great challenge. As we moved into our 50th anniversary year, I learned things that have been especially moving for me. Read more...

50 Years and One Month

January 20, 2016

Taking time to be retrospective is a wonderful exercise. Months ago when we started preparing for TCC’s 50th Anniversary year we spent a lot of time looking back, from the foundation of the College to today, and who helped us along the way. The photos and documents we pulled from the archives, some of which dated back years before the doors even opened, were a wonderful reminder of our rich history and the significance of our institution. Celebrating a Legacy, Building a Future

January 4, 2016

Official logo of Tallahassee Community College's 50th AnniversaryEvery organization has a certain amount of inertia or velocity with which it moves steadily forward. This forward momentum is almost never the result of one massive push, but rather many small and determined pushes that are motivated by a collective desire for progress. I have the honor of being at the helm of Tallahassee Community College as we celebrate our landmark 50th anniversary. Read more...
