This fellowship is available to support outstanding faculty, allowing them to reassign time to allow opportunity to pursue a project which directly contributes to excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.
Oyster Aquaculture Program
The TCC Foundation created a micro-loan program to support the first ten students of the Oyster Aquaculture Program at the Wakulla Environmental Institute. Megan is one of the members of the inaugural class. She is a Wakulla County resident who completed high school but was unsure of what to do professionally. She was not working and felt she was stuck in a rut until her father learned about the Oyster Aquaculture Program. Megan and her father decided to enroll together. The support of the Foundation has enabled Megan and her classmates to purchase the oyster seed, cages, poles and line needed to begin their oyster crop as well obtain their submerged land lease. It also provides for training of oyster cultivation and business management including marketing and sales. Upon graduation, the cohort will have a fully operating oyster aquaculture business. This program is now in its third year, preparing students for a new career and supporting Wakulla County’s local economy.
