TCC Foundation Announces Amazon as Cleaver and Cork Presenting Sponsor
The Tallahassee Community College has announced Amazon as the presenting sponsor of Cleaver and Cork 2023. The $25,000 sponsorship made by Amazon provides the foundation to make Cleaver and Cork 2023 a success.
In November, Amazon selected TCC as an education partner for Amazon’s Career Choice Program, providing Amazon’s hourly employees access to training programs in HVAC, Machining, and Welding. The announcement came in advance of the scheduled opening of the new Amazon fulfillment center in 2023. The fulfillment center will create around 1,000 full-time jobs with good pay and comprehensive benefits that start day one. Amazon's current customer fulfillment footprint in Florida includes facilities in Davenport, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Miami, and Ruskin.
“I want to thank Amazon for their commitment to their employees and their commitment to being a good partner in their community,” said Dr. Jim Murdaugh, president of Tallahassee Community College. “We think it says a lot that Amazon has chosen to become the presenting sponsor of Cleaver and Cork, a signature event that our Foundation has become known for that raises thousands of dollars each year to help our College make college affordable for the students who choose to come to us. We look forward to a continued relationship and partnership.”
“Amazon is so excited to enter the Tallahassee market and to be a presenting sponsor of this year’s Cleaver and Cork event,” said Cristal Cole, Amazon’s Public Policy Lead for the Southeast. “We are very proud that Tallahassee Community College joined our Career Choice Program allowing us to provide prepaid educational opportunities for our hourly employees once the facility launches here in Tallahassee. At Amazon, it really is our mission to be a good neighbor and community partner. Our trailblazing commitment to purposeful giving is at the core of who we are. We look forward to a wonderful partnership with TCC.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Amazon in presenting this year’s Cleaver and Cork event series,” said Heather Mitchell, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at TCC and Executive Director of the TCC Foundation. “One of the things that Amazon does really well is provide support for the local communities they call home. This partnership is not just about TCC or our students, it is about supporting our local hospitality community as well.”
“Time and again, Amazon has proven that the local communities they call home benefit greatly from their presence and we certainly look forward to that here in Tallahassee,” said City Commissioner Curtis Richardson. “We are so grateful that they chose Tallahassee for their new home for their most technologically-advanced retail warehouse and we are lucky that their support extends to supporting one of our signature events at Tallahassee Community College. This support speaks to their strong belief that supporting the local community benefits us all.”
