About the Division
Welcome to the Academic Support Programs Division where student success is our first priority!
The Academic Support Programs Division provides a variety of courses and services designed to promote personal and academic success at TCC. Faculty members who teach in Academic Support are highly trained professionals selected for their academic knowledge and for their commitment to student success. The faculty and staff recognize and value the diversity our students bring to the educational experience. Our goal is to help all students develop the academic skills needed to make the most of their educational opportunities and to help develop the skills and abilities characteristic of successful, independent learners.
When students begin their studies at TCC, we assess their skills in reading, writing and mathematics with a computerized placement test. Based on this assessment, students may be placed in college preparatory courses in one or more of these three areas. Students who successfully complete our courses go on to experience high rates of success in college-level writing and math courses and courses in their majors.
The Academic Support Programs Division offers several courses in student development, career planning and college success. These courses assist students in developing effective classroom skills and life skills, and assist them with career exploration and planning. Like students who complete our reading, writing and math courses, students who complete these courses go on to experience better-than-average performance in their college studies.
The Learning Commons provides open access computers and “one-stop” learning support across the curriculum. Throughout their time at TCC, students have access to a wide range of learning resources in the Learning Commons. Our professional staff is available to assist students in a variety of subject areas. Through one-on-one and small group tutoring, online and print resources, study groups and workshops, students receive learning support for class assignments, projects, and examinations.
Again, welcome to TCC and the Academic Support Programs Division! We're here to help students succeed.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sally P. Search
Dean, Academic Support Programs Division
