Writing

Research Papers

Resources to help plan and write college research papers

Getting Started

Like college students everywhere, Tallahassee Community College students are frequently assigned research papers. Some are brief, requiring only a few pages of text supported by several outside sources while others can be as long as ten pages and require many citations of journals and scholarly works. However, no matter what dimensions the assignments take, several aspects remain constant:

  • All research projects offer a thesis;
  • In each case, the thesis must be supported by outside evidence; and
  • Outside evidence must be documented using a specific protocol such as APA, MLA, or Turabian.

Of course, undertaking such a project creates problems for the student. Solving these problems is part of the learning experience. The following guide is designed to answer some of the most frequently asked questions concerning the writing of college research papers.
