Hiring Procedure for the Math and Science area

The mission of the Math and Science area is to help students become better math, physics, chemistry, or accounting students. This is accomplished by having qualified staff and offering assistance in a competent and caring manner. This help is mostly done on a one-on-one basis, but may include small groups. The tutors in the Commons are not meant to be a replacement for classroom instruction or attendance, but we are here to assist and guide students in becoming self-reliant and able to use available resources effectively.

To help facilitate the hiring process you will need:

  • a completed OPS Application (msword 1.23 MB)
  • 2 letters of reference.
  • College transcript(s) (unofficial transcripts are OK).
  • a completed Tutor Availability form (pdf 76.66 kB) , this includes classes you can tutor and times available.
  • Personal statement. This paragraph should include your qualifications and reasons for applying for this position. Please include a statement as to how the experience would be related to your future educational or vocational/professional goals.

Then:

  • Set up a time for an interview with the Coordinator-Mrs. Vera Mayes. Applicants will be given a screening test to assess the applicant's ability to assist with the various math classes offered at TCC.
  • If hired, complete additional paperwork and turn in all documents to TCC Human Resources.
  • Complete the Tutor Orientation and Beginning Training Program.
  • New tutors will not begin until after the training/orientation.

Please contact the Commons at (850) 201-8251, or lcmathscience@tcc.fl.edu if you have any questions or to set up an interview.

Thank you for your interest.

Note: OPS staff are paid on a monthly basis, the last working day of each month.
