About the Division

Welcome to the Division of Communications and Humanities

The Division of Communications and Humanities offers a variety of programs. Included within the Division are freshman and sophomore level courses in Humanities, English, Communication, Arts, and Foreign Languages. These courses serve the diverse needs of students seeking an Associate of Arts Degree or an Associate of Science Degree.

Faculty in the Division are committed to providing the highest quality of education to students. Many of the faculty use technology supported learning within and outside the classroom walls, and faculty keep abreast of the ever-changing demands of a technological society. Additionally, faculty strive to incorporate both critical and creative thinking into their instruction to prepare students for the complex and diverse thinking skills required for success in today's global world.

In addition to the traditional classroom setting, the Division offers web-based courses and Self-Paced Instruction classes (SPI). Also included in the Division are the Humanities Study Abroad Program, the New York Museum Trip, and the Spain Study Abroad trip; these experiences are intended to expand the horizons of students wishing to enjoy our diverse and rich world cultural heritage.

Housed within the Division are the Eyrie , TCC's literary art magazine and The Talon , TCC's student newspaper. Both publications afford students a learning environment to discover and share their journalistic and creative skills and to learn to work cooperatively to achieve a common goal.

Many learning opportunities abound within the Division of Communications and Humanities. For instance, TCC has the distinction of a state and national champion Forensics Speech and Debate Team and an outstanding Theater program that produces four major productions annually. Also located on campus in the Fine and Performing Arts Center are the TCC Fine Art Gallery and the Ralph Hurst Gallery. The TCC Fine Art Gallery offers approximately 10 different shows annually, including faculty and student exhibits and exhibits of local artists of renown. The Division supports a strong studio art program with courses in jewelry making, painting, color theory, photography, etc.

Students interested in music can join the Tallahassee Civic Chorale, the TCC Jazz Band or the Capital City Band of TCC. For those students interested in dance, the Division offers courses in ballet, jazz, and swing, to mention only a few. The College sponsors an Open Mic series for individuals who wish to display their talents on stage. Also, students can audition for Illuminare--TCC's Show Chorale.

Please let me encourage you to become involved in the many different offerings of the Division of Communications and Humanities and the campus.

Sincerely,
Marge Banocy-Payne
