TCC men down Gulf Coast State, 70-54
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (February 18, 2012) - C.J. Washington led four players in double-figures with 13 points and Tallahassee Community College defeated Gulf Coast State College, 70-54, on Saturday evening in Panhandle Conference men's basketball action.
The win gave Tallahassee the series victory over Gulf Coast State in 2012 and improved the Eagles to 14-12 overall, 2-8 in Panhandle Conference play.
Tramain Parker added 12 points, followed by Malcolm Sapp with 11 and Marterrace Brock with 10.
Gulf Coast State scored the first six points of the game and appeared poised to run away early, but the Commodores missed four straight free throws during the same stretch. Instead of having a double-digit lead, Gulf Coast State opened the door for Tallahassee and the Eagles took advantage.
Marterrace Brock hit a jumper to get the Eagles on the board and Tallahassee seized control with a 21-6 spurt. In the midst of the Eagles' run, Gulf Coast State missed 10 of 18 free throw attempts in the first half.
Tallahassee led 35-21 at the half and opened the second stanza on a 8-2 run to go in front by 20, 43-23, with 18:14 left in the game. Each time the Commodores showed signs of life, Tallahassee had an answer and Gulf Coast State never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Tallahassee will return to play on Wednesday evening when it travels to Northwest Florida State College for an 8:30 p.m. game against the Raiders.
