Lady Eagles fall to Gulf Coast State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 31, 2012) - Shanequa Phifer scored a game-high 24 points but it wasn't enough for FCSAA No. 9 Tallahassee Community College, who dropped a 65-44 decision to No. 2 Gulf Coast State College on Tuesday evening in Panhandle Conference women's basketball action.
Tallahassee has dropped six straight to open PC play and is now 11-9 overall. Gulf Coast State improved to 18-3 (5-2 PC).
Gulf Coast State scored the game's first six points and had a 24-6 lead less than ten minutes into the game. Tallahassee outscored Gulf Coast State 16-6 over a seven-minute stretch to pull within eight (28-20) before heading to the intermission trailing 38-26.
Gulf Coast State's lead reached 20 on Uju Ugoka's basket with 15:42 left in the game.
Ugoka finished with 18 points to lead Gulf Coast State.
Tallahassee shot only 25.9 percent (15-of-58) for the game and was 6-of-29 (20.7 percent) in the second half.
The Lady Eagles will return to play on Saturday evening when they host Northwest Florida State College. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
