TCC, EWD awards certificates to first CNC Machining graduates

TALLAHASSEEE, Fla. (March 18, 2008) - Tallahassee Community College’s Division of Economic & Workforce Development has achieved a 100 percent completion rate for its first Introduction to CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Lathe Machining class.

The class will hold a certificate ceremony at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 20, in Room 207 of the College’s Center for Economic & Workforce Development.

All students receiving a certificate successfully completed the CNC Lathe Machining training that included the LearnHAAS online self-paced training system along with hands-on lathe equipment instruction.

“We are excited to award certificates to the first CNC Lathe Machining class,” said Beth Mann Pace, Manufacturing Technology Program Manager.

The 60-hour introductory course included the following topics: Basic Shop Math, Blueprint Reading, Gauging, HAAS SL Lathe Series Training and Statistical Process Control. The course also included hands-on CNC Lathe experience training under the instruction of David Denton, Global CNC Solutions.

“By offering this course, it affords students an opportunity for developing new technical skills and a potential for advancement” says Pace. “CNC machinists and operators are in demand locally, as well as nationally.”

The next Introduction to CNC Lathe Machining class is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 8. Persons interested in enrolling are encouraged to register for the course by Friday, March 28. There are a limited number of spots available.

Financial assistance may be available for currently employed persons of a Leon County business demonstrating a need for trained CNC operators.
