Employer Information

Thank you for your interest in the TCC Internship Program. Our mission is to provide TCC students of all disciplines with tangible work experience that complements the classroom; creating better prepared candidates for the workplace.

About the TCC Internship Program:

TCC interns work in a temporary position with an emphasis on education and experience versus employment. Interns range in age from young adults to adults later in life who may be seeking new career skills. Student internships offer valuable opportunities to gain experience in a field of study, determine an interest in a particular career path, create a network of professional contacts, earn college credit and potentially make money. Often, internships pave the way to employment opportunities including part-time and full-time paid positions.

Employer Benefits to Hosting a TCC Intern:

Supervising a TCC intern requires employee time and talent. Benefits to hosting an intern include:

  • Increase name recognition of your company on TCC’s campus
  • Facilitate links between your business and TCC for potential research, teaching and recruitment opportunities
  • Supply labor and skill needed to complete a special project
  • Afford employees an opportunity to gain management experience
  • Provide a professional work setting for students who are enthusiastic about learning
  • Assess the capacities of a potential employee
  • Increase the number of graduates who stay in the community post-graduation

How the TCC Internship Program Works:

The TCC Internship Program works with students in many different areas of study. Before securing an internship, students are screened before sending them out into the field. The process begins with an overview about the program and its expectations followed by a resume review. Candidates’ resumes will then be provided to your company should he or she meet all or the majority of the minimum qualifications you request. As an employer, you have the right to invite (or not) a candidate to a formal interview. Should an interview be scheduled and successful, you and the intern will negotiate a start date and work schedule.

As part of the TCC Internship Program, students must complete the following:

  • At least 150 work hours (internships typically last 13 to 15 weeks)
  • A corresponding, three-hour internship course (msword 27.00 kB)  that includes the State of Florida’s approved WorkKeys Skills, enabling them to earn Florida’s Ready to Work credential
  • For Engineering, Architecture and Engineering Technology internship providers, please view the EGS 2941 course syllabus (pdf 190.85 kB) .
  • A written journal of their work experience, assigned duties and completed projects
  • At least two employer-submitted progress reports (pdf 181.60 kB)  reviewing the intern’s work performance

While many TCC students are either beginning (or returning) to their education and career paths, they are eager to learn and obtain real-world experience.
