Challenge & Take Stock in Children Scholarships
Challenge Scholarship Program
The Challenge Scholarship program was created by the TCC Foundation in cooperation with the College Reach-Out Program in 1994. Funds donated for this program are matched with state monies from Project S.T.A.R.S. (Scholarship Tuition for At-Risk Students). By the Spring of 2006, over 600 two-year and 2+2 year prepaid tuition scholarships have been purchased.
Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children (TSIC) is a statewide prepaid scholarship program very similar to the Challenge Scholarship program. TSIC was designed to assist low to low-middle income students with full 2+2 year prepaid tuition scholarships in cooperation with Project STARS. A caring mentor also meets with the student once a week for an hour during school. All money raised for both scholarship programs remains in the local community and 100% of the scholarship contributions go directly to purchase prepaid tuition scholarships. Between 1998 (year of the program's first high school graduate) and the Spring of 2006, 171 of 177 program seniors have graduated and 150 have enrolled in college, over 40 have received BA or BS degrees.
