Fostering Achievement Fellowship Program

The Fostering Achievement Fellowship Program was established to address the overwhelming need for a comprehensive support structure to assist foster youth in making the transition from a structured foster care program to independent young adulthood. The Fellowship program will provide financial, academic, and social support to assist college bound youth aging out of foster care pursue a college education.

By the age of 18, many children in foster care have experienced physical and mental health issues, multiple changes in elementary and secondary schools, homelessness, substance abuse, poverty and a number of other issues that may impede their ability to complete high school. For those who complete high school, the prospect of navigating the higher education maze is daunting. Historically, youth in foster care have not received the necessary support to pursue higher education opportunities or to complete degree programs at the same rates as their peers.

Research indicates youth aging out of foster care require additional social and academic supports to achieve degree completion in higher education. The Fostering Achievement Fellowship Program will provide the resources and support structure needed to ensure Fellowship recipients are successful in achieving their educational goals.

Tallahassee Community College Foundation

The Foundation will act as fiscal agent for Fellowship program funds. The funds will be managed by the Tallahassee Community College Foundation and will be subject to the rules that apply to restricted funds within the Foundation. The structure and support of the Tallahassee Community College Foundation will ensure virtually every dollar will be disbursed for its intended purpose.
