4. Testing

TCC requires all first-time students and transfer students who have not completed a college level math and English course to take a college level placement test. Students may use the ACT, the SAT, or the college-entry placement test (CPT) as long as the scores are not more than two years old. Please read below for information about all three of these options.

ACT

To be placed in the appropriate courses with ACT scores, you must have a score of 18 or higher in Reading, 17 or higher in English and 19 or higher in Math. To request scores from ACT to be sent to the TCC Testing Center, you may go to www.act.org or call (319)337-1270.  Scores can also be faxed directly to the Testing Center at (850) 201-8676.

SAT

To be placed in the appropriate course with SAT scores, you must have a score of 440 or higher in Math and a 440 or higher in Verbal/Critical Reading. To request scores from SAT to be sent to the TCC Testing Center, you may go to www.collegeboard.com or call 1-800-728-7267.  Scores can also be faxed directly to the Testing Center at (850) 201-8676.

FPERT (Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test)

Students who wish to take the college-entry placement test should follow the steps provided below. There is no cost for this test for students applying to TCC. Students who want to take the college placement test for another college or university must pay a $25 fee.

To get started with the college-entry placement test, here are some things to know:

  • Submit an application for admission to TCC. It must be processed before you can take the exam.
  • The college-entry placement test is administered on a walk-in basis, Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Appointments can be made for every second Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. by calling the Testing center at (850) 201-8282.
  • Please be prepared to bring a picture ID. If a student shows up with out a picture ID, they will not be permitted to test.
  • The college-entry placement test assesses the student's proficiency level in math, English and reading.
  • Students will receive scores immediately after computerized testing.
  • After testing, schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss your scores and register.
