Adaptive Technology Computer Lab

The Disability Support Services Adaptive Technology Computer Lab is available to students enrolled in the Disability Support Services program. The lab is equipped with such specialized software as JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText, OpenBook and Kurzweil Reader. The entire array of Microsoft XP is on every computer.

The DSS Testing Center & Adaptive Technology Computer Lab is located on the second floor of the Fine & Performing Arts Building (#12), room 219.

Our hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-7:00 pm, Fridays 8:00 am-5:00 pm during the Fall and Spring terms and Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm for the Summer terms. We may be reached at 201-8271 during those hours.

Resources in the Adaptive Technology Computer Lab include:

JAWS® for Windows works with the PC to provide access to today's software applications and the Internet. Information from the screen is read aloud, providing technology to access a wide variety of information, education and job related applications.

Dragon Naturally Speaking™ allows you to speak to the computer naturally and watch as your words appear on the screen… with this program, you can write e-mails, reports, letters etc., just by speaking, with or without typing.

ZoomText Magnifier enlarges and enhances everything on the computer screen, making everything easier to see and use. The text appears clear at all magnification levels.

OpenBook™ is a scanning, reading and writing solution for people with disabilities or reading difficulties using "Real Speak," a natural, human-sounding voice.

Kurzweil Reader is our most popular scanning, reading and writing solution for people with disabilities.

We also offer Visualtecs ; CCTVs used to enlarge text.

Who Can Use This Center?

All students using this center must have documentation on file in the Disability Support Services office which is located in the Student Union, room 172.
