All healthcare programs (degrees and certificates) are limited access and limited enrollment, with specific admission requirements for each program. 

How to Apply

The healthcare programs, degrees, and certificates are limited access programs.

For All New TCC Students:

  • Applicants who are not current TCC students must apply to the College, and meet all of the College requirements. Applications must be received by the program's application deadline (listed below) to be considered.
  • Applicants must meet the program requirements and complete all pre-requisite courses to be considered for admission. 

For Returning TCC Students:

  • Previous TCC students who have not enrolled within the last 12 months must submit a returning student application. Applications must be received by the program's application deadline (listed below) to be considered.
  • Applicants must meet the program requirements and complete all pre-requisite courses to be considered for admission. 

For New and Returning who have Not Completed Program Pre-Requisites:

  • If you know you are missing prerequisites, Apply to the Associates in College/University Transfer (Associates in Arts) program to begin completing those courses.
  • *Trying to apply directly to your program without having the prerequisites completed will cause your application to be denied and prolong the time it takes you to get started at TCC.
  • Once all program prerequisites have been completed, the student must reapply for admission into their chosen HCP program.

Dental Assisting Certificate

To prepare students for certification in dental assisting and to safely and effectively perform all functions that are legal for the dental assistant to perform in Florida. To prepare students to take the Dental Assisting National Board Exam. Quality patient care and the development of skilled dental assistants are the ultimate goals of the Dental Assisting program. This program also provides the first level of educational preparation for students seeking to become dental hygienists.

Admission Pre-Requisites

Applicants to the program must complete all admission requirements to the College. Applicant must have successfully completed biology and chemistry in high school or college and have a high school or college cumulative unrounded GPA of 2.0 or better.

Emergency Medical Technician Certificate

Job growth and security, stimulating work environments and the opportunity to serve the public are just some of the benefits of a career in Emergency Medical Services. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate prepares students to perform safely and efficiently as part of a medical team. You’ll grow personally as you help meet the needs of your patients, their families and your community. It takes two semesters to become certified as an EMT. Evening classes are available for the EMT certificate program.

Completion of the EMT Applied Technology Certificate Program at TCC qualifies students to sit for the registry exam as an EMT. Once licensed, you may wish to launch your career at this point, or you may wish to build on this foundation by proceeding to apply for paramedic training to become a registered paramedic.

Admission Pre-Requisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and meet all admission requirements of the College, including appropriate placement scores
  • Completed one of the following within the past two years: an approved college-level first aid course (HSC2400), an approved first responder course (EMS1059C) or have current certification as a First Responder
  • Submit an Emergency Medical Technician program admission application by the published application deadline; this is a separate application from the College application
  • The applicant must take the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (FPERT) and place in ENC1101, reading exempt and MAT0028, or have successfully passed the minimum of MAT0018ENC0025 and REA0017. Please contact the TCC Testing Center at 201-8282 for information about FPERT.

Nurse Assistant PSAV Certificate

This course prepares students for the certification exam and subsequent employment as Nursing Assistants in long-term care facilities, clinics, home care and hospitals.

Students learn to identify and meet basic patient care needs for safety, vital signs, comfort, and activities of daily living. Students then have the opportunity to practice their newly acquired skills and knowledge in a healthcare setting. The program includes 80 hours of classroom/lab instruction plus 40 hours clinical internship in local healthcare facilities. Students must attend all required hours. Students must successfully complete both the classroom and clinical portions of the class in order to be eligible to take the certification examination.

Graduates must pass the certification examination to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) to practice in the State of Florida. The State of Florida requires that a nursing assistant must have a standard high school diploma or GED, be 18 years old and pass a state and national background check.

Student must complete the application process, with satisfactory results, by the stated deadline in order to be eligible to attend the first class.

Students must complete the following requirements by the deadline in order to be eligible for the Nursing Assistant program:

  • Submit a TCC Application
  • Submit copies of official transcripts
  • Submit an application to the Nurse Assistant program
  • Pass a Level 1 Background Check (background checks are approximately $111)
  • Pass a drug screening test
  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. View application packet below for more details.

Paramedic Certificate

The paramedic program offered by TCC consists of classroom work, discussions, and demonstrations, as well as laboratory practice, supervised clinical instruction and practice, and supervised on-the-job performance in an intensive care vehicle. The program of instruction in the paramedic courses is a minimum of four semesters, totals approximately 1260 clock hours, and awards 42 semester hours of credit. Upon satisfactory completion of the 42 semester hours, the student is eligible to sit for the State examination to become a registered paramedic. Most students can complete the EMS Technology associate degree in less than one year after earning the Paramedic Certificate. 

Students are required to successfully complete all of the requirements and courses in the Paramedic Program to be eligible for graduation and to sit for the National Registry of EMT certification exam and/or the Florida paramedic exam. Advanced Placement and experiential learning will not be considered. Students transferring from other institutions’ paramedic programs may be eligible for acceptance into various stages of the program. This is determined after transcripts, course syllabi, outlines, and skills have been evaluated by the appropriate staff and faculty of Tallahassee Community College.

Admission Pre-Requisites

  • Must complete all college admission requirements and have a standard high school diploma or GED diploma.
  • Applicant must be college-ready, which means the applicant does not need developmental education courses in English, reading, and/or mathematics. This requirement may be satisfied by one or more of the following options:
    • The Florida Statute on Developmental Education exemption
    • Adequate placement scores from the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) or other college placement scores accepted by TCC
    • Completion of developmental education courses
    • Completion of at least ENC1101 College Composition and one general education Mathematics State Core course
  • Must be a Florida-certified EMT or eligible for the Florida EMT examination. (EMT certification must be obtained before starting the program.)*
  • Must hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the Healthcare Provider level or American Red Cross certification in CPR for the Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer. Online BLS or CPR courses will not be accepted.
  • Must pass all clinical affiliates’ requirements for criminal background checks, drug screenings and health/immunizations before starting all classes.
  • Satisfactory completion of program course prerequisite.

*Students who are not yet EMTs may wish to enroll in the Emergency Medical Technician Applied Technology Diploma (B312) program to begin their progress in this field.

Application

The Paramedic certificate program begins each Fall and each Spring semester. It is a limited-access program with a limited number of seats per class. Application procedures must be completed by the published deadline. Applicants must submit both a general TCC application (www.tcc.fl.edu/apply) by the published deadline. Students may access the healthcare program application through their TCC Passport account.

Program Purpose

To prepare competent entry-level paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.

The Tallahassee Community College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Associate in Science (A.S.) Degrees

Dental Hygiene, A.S.

The Dental Hygiene program is an 88-credit hour program that begins each fall semester at TCC. TCC accepts 30 applicants into the program each fall, and completion takes five semesters. 

The program is only offered as a full-time, traditional day program. Face-to-face attendance is required for class, labs, and clinical experiences. There may be a hybrid course (part online/ part in-person). 

Admission Pre-Requisites

  • The applicant must complete all pre-requisite courses with a grade of "C" or higher
  • The GPA of the pre-requisite courses must be at least 2.20
  • The cumulative GPA (all college credit courses attempted) must be at least 2.50

Note you can apply before completing all pre-requisite courses. However, applicants who have completed all pre-requisite courses before applying to the program will be prioritized.

Emergency Medical Services Technology, A.S.

The EMS Technology degree prepares students for a career in emergency medical care as EMS Team leaders or trainers in emergency medicine practice. Students who complete the program are competent in recognizing and assessing medical emergencies, as well as rendering care at the scene of an emergency, in an advanced life support ambulance, and in other appropriate settings such as hospital emergency departments and intensive care units. The program consists of 73 semester credit hours.

Admission Pre-Requisites

A student may declare the A.S. degree in EMS as his or her program of study at any time through the TCC Admissions and Records office.

  • The student is not officially admitted into the A.S. degree program until the student is enrolled in or has completed the TCC Paramedic program
  • The student must contact the Healthcare Professions Division to be officially admitted into the A.S. degree program

Program Purpose

Nursing (R.N.), A.S.

Students who earn an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in nursing can move directly into today's workforce or continue their education. You’ll grow personally as you help meet the needs of those you care for, their families, and your community. Whether you work in a hospital, clinic, doctor’s office, or patient’s home, the demand for nurses is expected to grow enormously.

For the Associate Degree in Nursing Program, completion of program requirements may make you eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) RN in Florida or one of the other 27 nursing compact states if you apply for a multi-state license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). A list of current compact states can be located on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website (https://www.ncsbn.org/nurse-licensure-compact.htm).

If you are a student who resides outside of Florida or one of the compact states, Tallahassee Community College cannot confirm whether this degree program meets the educational requirements for professional licensure in your state. Since the ASN program at Tallahassee Community College is nationally accredited, the curriculum should meet the requirements of other states; however, some states have requirements in addition to the program’s curriculum. If you wish to take the NCLEX-RN in a non-compact state, please contact the board of nursing in that state to determine whether this degree will meet their licensure requirements.

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and meet all admission requirements of the College.
  • Students are admitted using a point system, students with the highest number of points will be offered admission. These students must accept by official TCC e-mail and must complete all admission requirements for finalized admission. Students who are not admitted may go to the Web site and submit a new nursing application for a future semester. There is no waiting list.

Radiologic Technology, A.S.

This program prepares students to become Radiologic Technologists. It is a two-year, full-time Associate in Science degree program for students who desire to combine the technology of diagnostic medical imaging procedures with the art and skills of patient care. The program requires the commitment of a full-time student as all semesters in this competency-based curriculum consist of classroom lectures, application in the x-ray laboratory classes, and extensive, supervised clinical experiences in hospitals and clinics.

Admission Pre-Requisites

  • Completion of BSC2085 Anatomy & Physiology I, BSC2085L Anatomy & Physiology I Lab, and MAC1105 College Algebra
  • The GPA of these courses must be at least 2.25, and a grade of "C" or better in each course   
  • The HESI A2 test is also an admission requirement. A minimum of 75 in each section must be achieved to be considered eligible

Program Cost

The approximate total cost of the program is $10,900. This includes criminal background checks, drug testing, immunizations, uniforms, supplies, and books.

Respiratory Care, A.S.

The Respiratory Care, A. S. program provides students with the foundation to be able to safely and competently perform patient care by applying scientific principles to prevent, identify, and treat acute and/or chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system and prepares students for the examinations offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care for employment as registered respiratory therapists.

The Respiratory Care program is a 76-credit hour program that begins each fall semester at TCC.  The program accepts up to 24 applications each fall and takes five semesters to complete.

  • The program is only offered as a full-time, traditional day program, but clinical rotations and some classes will be required after 5:00 P.M. 
  • Face-to-face attendance is required for class, labs, and clinical experiences. There may be a few hybrid courses (part online/part in-person).

Admission Pre-Requisites

  • Be at least 17 years of age at the time at the time of entry into the program
  • Complete all admission requirements to the College
  • Have a cumulative, unrounded GPA of 2.5 for all college-level courses
  • Earn a grade of C or better in the three prerequisite courses

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree

Nursing (BSN), B.S.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree provides registered nurses with academic and workforce pathways to higher-level positions, including entry into leadership and management. A BSN also provides individuals with an academic pathway into master’s and doctoral nursing programs.

The program is designed for currently licensed registered nurses who have completed an Associate in Science Degree in Nursing (ADN). The curriculum complements the coursework and clinical experiences of the ADN, providing a seamless and efficient pathway for BSN students.​

BSN courses are offered online, allowing students to move through the program at a pace determined by the student. Candidates must receive their BSN within four years of beginning the core nursing courses (NURXXXX). Courses are offered through the Division of Healthcare Professions at the Ghazvini Center for Healthcare Education (GCHE)

Admission Pre-Requisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and meet all admission requirements of the College
  • Have you earned a standard high school diploma from an approved high school or have earned a GED
  • Submit a TCC application and supplemental program application
  • Be a graduate of a nationally accredited registered nurse program (associate degree or diploma program) from a regionally accredited institution
  • Possess a current, valid, unrestricted, unencumbered RN license in the state(s) the student will reside while completing any portion of the coursework
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA from a regionally accredited college/university
