Math Champions

A Math Champion is a student who is paired with a faculty member to assist with student success. Math Champs are a combination of peer mentor and peer tutor.  They are students recognized for their exemplary mathematical skills and their ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly to others.


  • Attend class with your paired professor (faculty mentor)
  • Assist with group work in class
  • Attend training sessions that will focus on best practices in tutoring and leadership
  • Hold tutoring sessions each week in the learning center to help students
    • Assist students in reviewing and clarifying information covered in class
    • Assist students in improving their study skills for the class
    • Assist students in achieving subject mastery


  • Tuition stipend valued at $700
  • Book stipend (up to $200)
  • Early registration
  • Increased communication and interpersonal skills
  • Increased mastery of the content and increased problem solving skills
  • Strengthen your resume with an experience that combines leadership and communication proficiencies


  • Math faculty recommendation
  • Mathematics GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Completed application
