To receive any loan a student must be enrolled for at least six eligible credit hours as a degree seeking student and meet the financial aid satisfactory progress requirements.
First time in College
Federal Regulations require TCC to delay payment of Federal Stafford loans to first-time borrowers by thirty days from the start of class. New students should note this delay in payment and make appropriate financial arrangements.
All borrowers must complete Entrance Counseling each Academic year prior to TCC crediting the first Stafford Loan at TCC to the student's account, even if the student completed Entrance Counseling at another institution. Students may complete their Entrance counseling at studentloans.gov.
All borrowers must complete their Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling each Academic year before funds may be used to defer tuition and fees. Students can complete their MPN at studentloans.gov.
Prior to leaving TCC, Direct Loan borrowers are required to undergo Exit Counseling, this can done on-line at NSLDS. All graduates and students not returning to TCC should contact the Financial Aid Office to obtain the appropriate paperwork for this process.
First-Time Borrowers are required to complete a Financial Literacy Requirement prior to disbursement of their Student Loan funds. The Financial Literacy can be completed online at https://www.osfaffelp.org/workshops/.
- Once you are in the website click “Get Started” arrow at the bottom of the page.
- Select your school and click “Continue”
- Select the “Financial Literacy” workshop and click “Begin Exam” button.
At the end of the workshop you will be asked for specific information which will be used to notify the Financial Aid Office that you have completed this training. A confirmation page will be generated for your records.

Other Important Requirements
Students are encouraged to review their degree audit to determine if classes are part of their degree requirements. Degree audits may be viewed on TCC Passport under the "My Success" Tab.
Students who attend multiple sessions within a semester cannot receive their loans until they are attending at least 6 eligible credit hours. Students may be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours, but the loans cannot be paid until the student has verified attendance in 6 credit hours.
Class attendance must be verified before any loans can be disbursed.
