Who needs to attend Orientation?

Is Orientation mandatory?

All new, first time in college (FTIC) students, high school dual-enrollment students who have graduated, and transfer students are required to complete the orientation requirements (online & advising appointment). Transient students, non-degree seeking students, and returning students do not have to complete the orientation process. 

I am seeking a certificate here at TCC, do I need to attend Orientation?

No. Only first time in college (FTIC) students, graduated high school dual-enrollment students, and transfer students are required to complete the orientation requirements

If I am a non-degree seeking, transient or vocational student, do I need to attend Orientation?

I'm transferring to TCC from another school.  Am I required to attend Orientation?

Yes, transfer students still need to complete both the mandatory Online Orientation and Orientation Advising appointment at TCC.

I was a dual-enrolled high school student at TCC. Do I still need to attend Orientation?

Yes. Once you graduate from high school, you will need to reapply to TCC for your program of study and complete a Residency Affidavit before moving through the orientation requirements. For more info, please email TCC Dual Enrollment Advisor Tulani Honablew or call (850) 201-6128

Is childcare provided during my Orientation advising appointment?

Childcare is not provided at TCC. Parents are encouraged to make other arrangements for young children. The College assumes no responsibility in the supervision of children and unsupervised children are not allowed on campus.

What do I need to bring to Orientation?

You should make sure all documentation for Admission and Financial Aid is submitted before attending the New Student Orientation Advising Appointment, but you may bring any academic paperwork (i.e. - transcripts, test scores) that you need to turn in with the understanding it will take time to process. Please note it may be helpful to bring a copy of your unofficial high school and/or college transcripts and copies of test scores for advising purposes.  

What do I need to wear for Orientation?

Dress is casual. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to accommodate plenty of walking. You might also consider tossing in a sweater/jacket or umbrella.

Where do I park for Orientation?

Park in any campus lot labeled "Student Parking" which are free and open to park in. Campus maps and directions are available here.

Where is the check-in for Orientation l ocated?

Orientation check-in will be in the Student Union Advising Center (SU207). See our campus map for more information. Be sure to factor in time for parking and check-in. Students who arrive late may be asked to reschedule.

Can I bring parents with me to my Orientation advising appointment?

Please note that parents and guests will not be able to attend your Orientation advising appointment.

What if I can't attend any of the on-campus Orientation dates?

We provide a variety of dates to accommodate busy schedules. All new students are required to complete New Student Orientation before registering for their first term of classes at TCC.

Does it matter which on-campus Orientation advising appointment I attend?

Students should be sure to register for an orientation that corresponds with the semester they intend to begin classes. The earlier students attend orientation, the more options they have for course selection.

How long is the Orientation advising appointment?

All the information you need to know is included in the mandatory Online Orientation.  The Orientation advising/registration appointment is approximately one hour. 

What is the cost to attend Orientation?

Orientation is free.
