TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 9, 2012) – Tallahassee Community College launched its first electronic academic catalog on August 6. The e-catalog replaces TCC’s print catalog and the online PDF and Flash versions of the same document.
The e-catalog is records-based, rather than page-based, and will enhance students’ ability to interact with information about TCC’s academic and career programs.
Students and other users may search for courses by course prefix or by subject area and view complete course descriptions. They may also search for programs by subject area or view a complete list of degree and certificate programs. Users may perform keyword searches on the entire catalog or any part of it, such as course descriptions.
Each program description includes direct links to the courses required for that program, allowing catalog users to view all the academic information about a program without starting a new search. Users may also print a degree planner for any program.
No login is required. However, users may choose to set up a login-based portfolio and save courses and programs of interest to return to later. Users may also share favorite courses and programs via social media.
A print version of the catalog will no longer be available, except in very limited quantities to meet legal requirements and the specific needs of certain departments. In addition to improved functionality and convenience, the move from print to digital will save paper and other resources, in line with TCC’s commitment to sustainability.
The College has invested significant resources in the transition to the new catalog management system in order to better serve students, prospective students, families, academic advisers, faculty and staff members. Technical development of the e-catalog was managed by the Florida-based company Digital Architecture, which has developed academic catalogs for hundreds of colleges and universities using its AcalogTM system.
The 2012-13 TCC catalog may be accessed at http://catalog.tcc.fl.edu or through the following steps:
