TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 14, 2012) - The Tallahassee Fire Academy, a division of Tallahassee Community College, graduated its twelfth class on December 13 in a ceremony at the College’s Florida Public Safety Institute Conference Center.
Chief Barry Baker, bureau chief for Division of State Fire Marshal, Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, was the evening’s guest speaker.
Looking ahead, the 30 Class 012 graduates are scheduled to take a two-part state examination on December 18 and 19. Results from the exam will be available in January.
With an average pass rate of 90 percent on the written and practical exam, the Tallahassee Fire Academy has catapulted into the upper echelon of the 42 academies in the state of Florida.
During Thursday’s ceremony, the Tallahassee Fire Academy will also present the following individual awards: Top Academic Award, Leadership Award and the coveted Isaac Royal Memorial Award, an award given in honor of a former firefighter who died in 1981 at the age of 26. The award recognizes the firefighter recruit who best builds, mobilizes and unifies people.

Merkle*, Kevin A. Mock, Lorenzo T. Monix, Christopher C. Morrison, Brent A. Nichols, Lloyd J. Palmer, Jennifer L. Perdue, Lewis C. Phillips, George M. Register, Jr., Steven R. Rock, Jr., Clayton D. Skiver, Ryan M. Thompson, Aaron J. Williams, Arvil B. Williams.
Fire Academy Class 013 begins January 7 and applications are now being accepted for Class 014, which is scheduled to begin in July 2013.
