TCC extends Summer 2014 China Study Abroad application deadline

TCC Study Abroad students on the Great Wall of ChinaTALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 9, 2013) – TCC has extended the Summer 2014 China Study Abroad application deadline to January 30, 2014. Interested students should contact TCC professor Lee Kitchen at (850) 201-8336 or for more information and a link to the online application.

TCC students and professors will travel to Tianjin, China, May 7 – June 18, 2014. All transportation, meals and admissions to museums and events are included in the price of $4,750. The courses taken as a part of the program qualify for financial aid and there are even a limited number of partial scholarships for some students. A $199 non-refundable security deposit is due by January 30.

Based in the modern city of Tianjin, the fourth largest city in China, students experience the old and the new and work with Chinese students in English to build a real business plan for a real product from Florida. Students will take two classes for credit: Small Business Management (SMB 2000) and Introduction to Chinese Culture (IDS 1195) for a total of six credit hours. Students will also travel within Tianjin and to other cities to enjoy China’s culture and history. Students will be offered Tai Chi lessons each week and can attend a session on preparing Chinese Dumplings, a musical performance and a calligraphy workshop.
The TCC team travels to Beijing for the weekend (includes the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and one night in a four-star hotel). The second out-of-town excursion will be to either Xi'an, the ancient capital of China and home of the Terracotta Warriors or to Shanghai for an overnight stay and then on to one of the famous water towns or villages outside of Shanghai for the evening. A third excursion may include travel to Mount Panshan and stay overnight in a farmer’s village.
“The experiences TCC students receive by working with teams of Chinese students open minds and provide a perspective they could never obtain in just a classroom environment,” said program director Lee Kitchen.
