Among state colleges, TCC Police Department first in Florida to receive accreditation

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 30, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College has announced that its police department is the first among Florida state colleges to receive accreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).

This July, CFA assessors reviewed TCC PD’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services and evaluated the department according to approximately 260 standards. Many of the standards are critical to life, health and safety issues. After the assessment team completed their onsite review, they reported back to the full Commission, which after weighing the team’s findings granted the TCC PD accreditation at the Commission’s September 25 meeting—making TCC the only state college in Florida with an accredited police department.

“The safety and security of students at TCC is paramount,” said TCC PD Chief David Hendry. “It’s the foundation for a setting where learning is possible. Accreditation verifies that the Tallahassee Community College Police Department subscribes to the most current and professional policing standards in Florida.”
According to the CFA, “Accreditation is a coveted award that symbolizes professionalism, excellence and competence. Employees [can] take pride in their agency, knowing that it represents the very best in law enforcement.”
The Tallahassee Community College Police Department’s accreditation is for 3 years.
