Fla. (February 03, 2014) – The Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle and
Tallahassee Community College will host the annual “Run for the Cookies” on
Saturday, February 8, 2014. The 5K and One Mile Run/Walk will take place on a
flat course behind the TCC Lifetime Sports Complex, 444 Appleyard Drive,
Tallahassee, 32304, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
help to underwrite the Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle’s destination
travel program. This program assists girls in covering the costs associated
with the educational experiences and adventures of Girl Scouting. The girls will
also earn a portion of the funds needed to cover their travel expenses through
service in the community.
Begun as a
Silver Award Project by a Girl Scout troop at Trinity Catholic School, the race
is now in its 21st year. Members of the Gulf Winds Track Club assist with race
can register online at www.raceit.com, or at the early registration and packet pick-up session at
Capital City Runners on Wednesday, February 5, from 3 to 7 p.m. The store is located
at 1817 Thomasville Road. The race flier is also available on the Girl Scouts’ Web
site at www.gscfp.org.
The entry fee for
early 5K registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt and the runner’s choice of
a box of Girl Scout cookies. The one mile entry fee is $10 and includes a race
T-shirt. Day-of-race 5K registration costs $18 and the one mile fee is $12.

The 5K and One Mile Run/Walk provide
something for all ages and fitness levels. Families, individuals, troops and
groups are invited to participate. Awards are provided in several age
categories. Special recognition is given to the Girl Scout troop with the most
entrants. The college fraternity or sorority with the most finishers receives a
free weekend at camp, and the school team with the most finishers in the One
Mile Run/Walk receives a pizza party.
