Annual Run for the Cookies benefits Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 03, 2014) – The Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle and Tallahassee Community College will host the annual “Run for the Cookies” on Saturday, February 8, 2014. The 5K and One Mile Run/Walk will take place on a flat course behind the TCC Lifetime Sports Complex, 444 Appleyard Drive, Tallahassee, 32304, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds will help to underwrite the Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle’s destination travel program. This program assists girls in covering the costs associated with the educational experiences and adventures of Girl Scouting. The girls will also earn a portion of the funds needed to cover their travel expenses through service in the community.

Begun as a Silver Award Project by a Girl Scout troop at Trinity Catholic School, the race is now in its 21st year. Members of the Gulf Winds Track Club assist with race administration.

Participants can register online at www.raceit.com, or at the early registration and packet pick-up session at Capital City Runners on Wednesday, February 5, from 3 to 7 p.m. The store is located at 1817 Thomasville Road. The race flier is also available on the Girl Scouts’ Web site at www.gscfp.org.

The entry fee for early 5K registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt and the runner’s choice of a box of Girl Scout cookies. The one mile entry fee is $10 and includes a race T-shirt. Day-of-race 5K registration costs $18 and the one mile fee is $12. Registration on February 8 begins at 7:30 a.m. at the TCC Lifetime Sports Complex.

The 5K and One Mile Run/Walk provide something for all ages and fitness levels. Families, individuals, troops and groups are invited to participate. Awards are provided in several age categories. Special recognition is given to the Girl Scout troop with the most entrants. The college fraternity or sorority with the most finishers receives a free weekend at camp, and the school team with the most finishers in the One Mile Run/Walk receives a pizza party.
