TCC Workforce Development to offer online beverage certification programs

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 25, 2014) – Starting March 4, TCC Workforce Development, in partnership with the Beverage Institute of America, will offer online beverage certification programs. Each course will last four weeks and will be offered online through TCC Workforce Development, statewide.

The non-credit courses will include Ales, Lagers and Fermentation; Wines of the World; Introduction to the World of Coffee and Tea and Introduction to the World of Distilled Spirits. Courses are $550 each.

Ales, Lagers and Fermentation, slated to start on March 4, is a 45-hour online, introductory course that will expose students to the exciting industry of ales, lagers and fermentation.  This course is specifically designed to develop students for entry-level positions in the beverage industry such as product distribution, sales and services. Employment opportunities may also be applied to jobs in operations and management with restaurants, resorts, private clubs, brew pubs and craft beer tap rooms.

Upon successful completion of Ales, Lagers and Fermentation, students will receive a Certificate of Course Completion from the BIA and TCC’s Division of Workforce Development. All individuals receiving certificates will be provided a free voucher to sit for the Cicerone Certification exam, recognized worldwide as the ultimate certification for ales and lagers professionals.

“The beverage industry has shown consistent and steady growth leading to an anticipated 12% growth rate in job openings statewide over the next six years,” said Kimberly Moore, vice president of TCC Workforce Development.

Completion of TCC’s certificate program will consist of career opportunities within the brewing and fermentation industry, restaurant beverage management, luxury resort and lodging beverage management, night club beverage management, entrepreneurial beverage management, and beverage distribution. The certificate program is poised to be a great opportunity for businesses and employers to invest in their employees.

The certificate would greatly impact individuals interesting into working within the beverage, which is a part of rising Florida industries gaining the most new jobs.

TCC and the Beverage Institute will also coordinate with industry professionals and will post resumes along with helping with job placements in this exciting field.
