TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 14,
2014) – Tallahassee Community College’s Fine Art Gallery will host a showcase
for a unique group of artists this summer.
The Tallahassee chapter of
the Pyramid Studio Artists will display their artwork in the gallery, located
in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, from May 23 to July 10 during regular
gallery hours. The exhibit opens Thursday, May 22, with a special showing from
6:30 to 8 p.m.
Pyramid is a nationwide program
open to adults with developmental disabilities. Tallahassee is one of four
Florida cities to host a Pyramid Studio.
Each Pyramid Studio provides
exciting and challenging artistic opportunities to its students, according to
Barbara Cohenour, TCC arts events coordinator.
“We at Tallahassee Community
College are pleased to have local Pyramid artists exhibiting in our Fine Art
Gallery this summer,” said Cohenour.
Students in the Pyramid
program may choose to become painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, potters,
printmakers, card designers or a combination of disciplines.
Pyramid relies on talented
and caring artist/instructors to help students cultivate their creative
talents, gain self-confidence and participate richly in the arts community.
Each Studio provides a warm setting in which students can interact positively
with their fellow developing artists and receive one-on-one instruction in
their areas of interest.
