Statistical Assistant

Statistical assistants compile and compute data according to statistical formulas for use in statistical studies. They perform actuarial computations and compile charts and graphs for use by actuaries. Statistical assistants collect statistics and data from source materials, such as production or sales records, quality-control or test records, time sheets, or survey sheet and enter it into computers for use in analyses or reports.

Work Environment

Statistical assistants work in office environments. They may have to sit for extended periods while reviewing detailed data. Most assistants work regular business hours and a standard 40-hour week.

Employment Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of statistical assistants is expected to grow by 3 to 9 percent from 2010 to 2020, slower than the average for all occupations.
