Dental Hygiene, A.S. (2101)

An A.S. Degree in Dental Hygiene prepares students to become registered dental hygienists who can safely provide a number of services within a dental office. Pursue a promising career in a challenging and rewarding field. The opportunity to serve the public, work in a variety of settings and enjoy both flexibility and job security are just a few of the benefits of earning an A.S. degree in Dental Hygiene.

Students will have the opportunity to work in private practice, public health, hospitals, schools, insurance and sales.

Full-time students seeking the A.S. Degree can complete the program in as little as five semesters, once the prerequisite courses have been completed. There is no part-time option for students.

Program Purpose:
To prepare students for the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and for licensure as registered dental hygienists. To prepare students to safely and effectively perform all the functions that are legal for dental hygienists to perform in Florida.

This program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.

88 credit hours

Admission Requirements:

Applicants to the Dental Hygiene program must complete all admission requirements to the College and must complete the program’s required prerequisite courses with a minimum unrounded GPA of 2.5 and a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.5.

Program Application:
The Dental Hygiene program begins in the Fall semester and is a limited-access program. Applicants must submit both a general TCC application ( and a separate healthcare program application by the published deadline. Applicants may access the healthcare application through their TCC Passport account.

Course Information


To satisfy State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.030, students must earn a grade of “C” or better in any Communications, Humanities, Social Sciences or Mathematics course used to fulfill general education requirements.

Prerequisite Courses (15 credit hours)

After Acceptance into Program (73 credit hours)

Fall Semester I (18 credit hours)

Spring Semester I (16 credit hours)

Summer Semester I (14 credit hours)

Fall Semester II (13 credit hours)

Spring Semester II (12 credit hours)


All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

* General Education math course and HUN1201  must be completed by the end of the Summer semester in order to continue to the second year. Failure to complete these courses on time will result in dismissal from the program.
