Respiratory Care, A.S. (2106)

The two-year respiratory care program at TCC is located at the Ghazvini Center for Healthcare Education and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Respiratory Care (COARC). The program is designed to prepare students for employment as registered respiratory therapists.

The program requires five semesters of study which includes technical courses in respiratory care, clinical experience in the respiratory care department of clinical affiliates, and support courses in science and general education. Instruction is provided in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings to prepare students to function safely and efficiently at the beginning and advanced levels of practice. Upon completion of the program and the required clinical experience, graduates are eligible to sit for the certification and registry examinations offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Program Purpose:
To prepare students for the examinations offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care for employment as registered respiratory therapists who can safely and competently perform patient care by applying scientific principles to prevent, identify and treat acute and/or chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system.

This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (

Employment Types:
Respiratory therapists are employed in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes, physicians’ offices and medical supply companies.

Program Length:
76 credit hours

Admission Requirements:

  • Be at least 17 years of age at the time at the time of entry into the program
  • Complete all admission requirements to the College
  • Have a cumulative, unrounded GPA of 2.5 for all college-level courses (See GPA for Respiratory Care .)
  • Earn a grade of C or better in the three prerequisite courses listed below

Program Application:
The Respiratory Care program begins in the Fall semester. It is a limited-access program with a limited number of seats per class. Applicants must submit both a general TCC application ( and a separate healthcare program application by the published application deadline. Applicants may access the healthcare application through their TCC Passport account.

Course Information


All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

To satisfy State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.030, students must earn a grade of “C” or better in any Communications, Humanities, Social Sciences or Mathematics course used to fulfill general education requirements.
