Resources and Services for Distance Learners

TCC’s Center for Distance Learning (CDL) believes in excellence in teaching, student services, student support, and faculty support. CDL is dedicated to delivering quality, industry-relevant courses for students who desire to continue their education, enhance their skills, and prepare themselves for future employment opportunities. 
 

Each of the areas listed below works with CDL to ensure that distance learning students receive the same quality of services and support as students on campus. There are many resources available for distance learning students.

Advising
Quality academic advising is vital t​o student success in higher education. Tallahassee Community College makes advising a seamless process for our prospective students through pre-college advising, and for current students seeking the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Certificate programs. Career Center

The Career Center offers students an array of services related to career planning, preparation and placement. Some of the programs and services include career assessment, professional development workshops, internships (in-major), part-time and full-time job opportunities through FutureLink, professional networking, resume/cover letter assistance, and interview preparation assistance. Disability Support Services

Tallahassee Community College is committed to creating an accessible environment where individuals are viewed on the basis of their ability, not their disability. Students with a diagnosed disability must apply for services through the Disability Support Services (DSS) Office before receiving accommodations.  Students can complete the form online and submit supporting documentation. Enrollment Services

Tallahassee Community College is an equal opportunity and open admission institution. The staff in the Enrollment Services and Student Success department assists students with the many steps needed to successfully progress from being a prospective student to admission to ultimately graduation at TCC.​


Financial Aid

The goal of the Financial Aid Office at TCC is to provide you with accurate and complete information in a courteous environment. Students can complete the FAFSA online and submit their TCC Financial Aid Application through Passport.  Students can refer to Financial Aid TV for video answers to general questions about Financial Aid.  To contact the Financial Aid Office, e-mail finaid@tcc.fl.edu, or call (850) 201-8414.

Mental Health Services

Mental Health Services provides mental health counseling to help students achieve their goals. Mental health professionals are available to offer services on crisis intervention, assessment, college adjustment, brief therapy, and test-taking anxiety. All services are free and confidential. Mental Health Services also has information for veteran students and their peers and family members. Contact Mental Health Services at (850) 201-7726.


TCC Bookstore

Students can purchase textbooks and course-related materials by contacting the TCC Bookstore at tccfl@bkstr.com or at (850) 575-9200. Students can purchase books online, or local students can visit the bookstore on the main campus.

Testing Center
Web courses are taken online. However, course exams may be administered at the TCC Testing Center located on the main campus. Please check with faculty or your advisor prior to registering to determine if your exam(s) must be taken at a proctored site. There is an additional cost for taking exams at a proctored site! Distance learning students can e-mail dltestingcenter@tcc.fl.edu or call (850) 201-6440 for more information.
Veterans Affairs

Veterans Affairs was established to provide specialized service to eligible veterans, dependents, active duty servicepersons, and members of the Selected Reserve. The coordinator helps students initiate, continue, or resume their education, and use their state and federal education benefit programs. The TCC Catalog allows students to access TCC course and program information, as well as add favorite courses, programs, searches and navigation links to My Portfolio. ​


Academic Support

The Learning Commons provides learning and technology assistance, resources and computer access help to all currently enrolled TCC students and university partners. Learning specialists, tutors, student success specialists and faculty collaborate to assist students in identifying and using resources. The Learning Commons offers a broad range of services including the following: learning support, including many textbooks, calculators and hands on activities; one-on-one and small group tutoring provided by faculty and trained staff; study rooms and open access computers; handouts, science models and electronic resources; and workshops and seminars. Online Tutoring
To take advantage of online tutoring, log in to Blackboard and click Smarthinking in the Tools area. Students can make appointments with tutors, submit papers to the online writing lab, submit questions, and more.

TCC Library 
The TCC Library provides students with access to online databases, e-books, articles, journals, magazines, and newspapers. Students may request library assistance through Ask a Librarian. This service allows students to text, email, or chat online with a reference librarian. Students can consult LibGuides for research assistance, subject guides, and useful resources compiled by TCC reference librarians. Contact the Library at library@tcc.fl.edu or (850) 201-8376.

Blackboard T​utorials

Blackboard tutorials for students are available as interactive videos or as Adobe Reader documents.
