DUI Instructor 

Attendees leave this National Highway Traffic Safety Administration course equipped to training officers in house or at their academy in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. This program includes all materials needed to teach FST training. Attendees will learn to administer training utilizing both a "dry workshop" (videos of impaired drinking subjects) and a "wet lab workshop" (with actual drinking subjects). Instructor techniques as they pertain to teaching this subject are included and the students will be required to participate in a teaching presentation.​

​Attendee must be a certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer or Assistant State Attorney currently employed in the Florida Criminal Justice System. Successful Completion of the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing course. This course may have been taken at any US jurisdiction training facility as long as it included actual wet lab exercises. DUI experience may be used to wave the wet lab requirement. It is recommended that the attendee have completed the Florida Instructor Techniques course (not mandatory at this time). At the beginning of the course each student will be required to show the ability to administer the three standardized field sobriety tests properly. Passing this test requires that the participants administer the complete test battery at least once, in the presence of an instructor, without deleting or erroneously performing any of the critical administrative elements of the tests. Failure to properly administer these three tests will result in the dismissal from the course. It is also recommended that each student bring their 24 hour SFST student book with them to class along with a computer that has PowerPoint or its equivalent to class.

​All materials will be provided for this course.

 What are the Expenses?

​Tuition for this training is provided through a grant, so there is no cost to you or your agency. Housing and meals are provided onsite at no cost when the training is offered onsite at the Florida Public Safety Institute and you will be traveling from out of town.
