Photographic Techniques for Crash Investigation 

Crash scenes often require photographic evidence. These photographs are often taken in undesirable lighting, inclement weather, or need considerations to the complexity of the scene. Students will learn the application of photography to the crash scene. Methodology will be covered along with various lighting conditions. This is a hands on course and students will create photographic representations and have those photographs critiqued. Digital and film cameras will be covered.

Course Topics Include:

  • Techniques and methods of crash scene photography
  • Overview of photography equipment
  • Night and inclement weather photography
  • Injury photography
  • Court admissibility and rules of evidence
  • Working with computer software
  • Enhancements to photographs

​To attend this training, the participant must be a Florida law enforcement officer, or civilian crash investigator who works for a Florida Law Enforcement Agency, or a State Assistant Attorney.

 What Should I Bring?

​A digital camera with flash, and at least 2GB of memory.

 What are the Expenses?

​Tuition for this training is provided through a grant, so there is no cost to you or your agency. Housing and meals are provided onsite at no cost when the training is offered onsite at the Florida Public Safety Institute and you will be traveling from out of town.
