Police Motorcycle Instructor

This course equips the student instructor to conduct a police motorcycle rider course. The student will learn the course set-up and instruction of the basic exercises. The student will participate in a practical instructional exercise. The student will learn all the tasks and exercises that will be administered in the motorcycle rider course. The student instructor will also receive officer survival training with live fire exercises.

​Minimum requirements include:

  • Must be  a sworn Florida Law Enforcement Officer employed by a Florida Law Enforcement agency.
  • Must have a Florida Driver License with motorcycle endorsement. 
  • Must have successfully  completed the Certified Police Motorcycle Operator (80 Hour) course. 
  • Must have an active instructor techniques certificate

There are 20 seats scheduled for this training class. That number is locked in and cannot be changed. During training, the student is expected to attend the entire class. Absence for any reason must be approved by the instructor and make-up work needs to be completed on the student's own time. The maximum time that may be made up is 10%. If more than 10% is missed, the student will be withdrawn from training.


 What Should I Bring?

​Attending students must bring the following with them:
  • A police motorcycle
  • Protective eye wear
  • A DOT approved helmet (3/4” shell recommended)
  • Above the ankle lace up boots
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • Duty firearm with leather and 250 rounds of ammo
  • Leather or Kevlar Jacket

 What are the Expenses?

​Tuition for this training is provided through a grant,  there is no cost to you or your agency. Housing and meals are provided at no cost when the training is offered at the Florida Public Safety Institute for students residing beyond 50 miles from the Florida Public Safety Institute.
