Division of History & Social Sciences
The Division of History and Social Sciences is service-oriented, offering general education core and elective courses for students enrolled in the Associate in Arts (A. A.) college transfer program, as well as selected courses for the Applied Science (A. S.) degree and certificate programs.
All major college-level History and Social Sciences disciplines are represented in the division, including: Anthropology, Child Development, Economics, Geography, History, Human Development, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration and Sociology. Course descriptions are available in the Areas of Study section of this webpage and in the TCC on line catalog.
In reaching out to the non-traditional student, faculty has developed courses using non-traditional teaching methods, including web-based and televised courses and self-paced instruction. These courses are equivalent to those offered in the traditional classroom setting and provide students who have outside commitments the opportunity to work at their own pace and in the home setting.
The division boasts 27 full-time faculty and approximately 70 adjunct instructors, all committed to excellence in teaching and student success. Also, faculty are actively involved in intellectual endeavors such as publishing research articles, presenting papers at professional conferences and community service.
In addition to the curriculum offerings, a number of special programs and organizations are managed by the division such as the Sister School Program with San Hsin School in Taiwan, Brain Bowl Competition, Boys State/Girls State Program, the Model UN Program and Women's History Month.
The History and Social Sciences Building is located at the south end of campus near the intersection of Appleyard Drive and Pensacola Street. The division offices are located on the second floor and are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
