The Tallahassee Community College Testing Center FAQS

The Testing Center is committed to providing excellent customer service to our students, faculty, and community, while ensuring the integrity of testing in a secure environment. Whether you're aiming to further your education, enter the workforce, or advance your present career, the Testing Center offers a broad array of services to meet your needs.

What is a Proctored Exam?

A proctored exam is an exam which is taken under supervision. Some online courses at TCC have, as a component, exams which need to be proctored. This gives professors a way to assess students' performance in the course and mastery of the subject material without compromising academic integrity, as may be the case with a student who takes exams at home unsupervised.

How will I know if my online courses require proctored exams?

Your course syllabus should indicate this clearly. If a student is unsure whether or not the course requires proctored exams, he/she should contact the instructor.

Proctored Testing

Students who do not live in Tallahassee Community College's service area of Leon, Gadsden or Wakulla Counties and, choose not to come to the main campus Testing Center, will need to find someone to proctor their exams. Many colleges and universities have Testing Centers which allow students from other schools to take tests. There may be a fee incurred while taking exams. Students are responsible for return postage for completed exams. Also, students need to make sure they can take their exams during the Testing Center's scheduled hours. Important Note: It is imperative that students set up their proctors within the first two weeks of the semester. The Testing Center cannot make last-minute proctor arrangements.

Proctoring Exams

Proctors are individuals who are responsible for supervising you as you take an exam. Proctors are needed to ensure educational integrity while the student is taking the exam. Examples of acceptable proctors are:
• College testing center personnel
• Military Education Officer
• Librarian
• Private Testing Service Business; For example: Sylvan Learning Center
Relatives, friends, or co-workers are NOT eligible to proctor exams. If you have questions about proctor arrangements, call (850) 201-8282. The Testing Center maintains an active list of proctors. You can find a proctor by seeing the attached list or filling out a "Proctor Registration Form" at least three days prior to taking the exam.
