Physical Plant

Physical Plant is responsible for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of the physical assets of the College including the buildings, grounds, parking areas and central utility plant.  The department strives to provide service in a pro-active manner through thoughtful planning and the operation of the Preventative Maintenance System, with the goal of being a recognized leader in Florida College plant operations.

The major areas of responsibility include Custodial Services, Landscaping and Maintenance.  Within these departments, Physical Plant provides Moving Services and the Recycling program.

 

 Custodial Services

 
The responsibilities of the Custodial department are to keep the inside of the buildings clean. These buildings include classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms and other areas. The custodians are also responsible for the collection of recyclable office paper.
 

 Landscaping

 
​The responsibilities of the Landscape Department are to keep the campus grounds safe and attractive for students, visitors, faculty and staff. Other duties include the specialized maintenance of the baseball and softball fields, the maintenance of the irrigation systems and all associated care of the parking lots.
 

 Maintenance

 

​The responsibility of the Maintenance Department is to maintain the facilities on campus to keep buildings safe and in excellent condition. These duties include the maintenance and operation of the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, fire alarm and life safety equipment and the maintenance and operation of all mechanical systems.

 

 Moving Services

 

​Plant Operations is responsible for the movement of furniture and equipment at the College. Planning for the move of an entire office or single piece of furniture does not have to be an unpleasant or overwhelming experience. With proper planning, Plant Operations can help relieve some of the stress.

 Recycling

 

​Tallahassee Community College has a robust recycling program. Large quantities of recyclable materials are collected on a daily basis from a large pool of sources including burned out lamps, paper from offices, classrooms and labs as well as cardboard from across the campus.
