CTLL MISSION

To provide opportunities for professional growth while building on our world class teaching and leadership to strengthen our learning environment.
 
 
PURPOSE
To promote excellence in teaching, learning and leadership through collaboration, professional enrichment opportunities, and dedicated resources.

 

PHILOSOPHY

The CTLL recognizes the central role of teaching and leadership in the learning process and serves as a comfortable environment to share resources and exchange ideas. We value diversity and endeavor to provide a variety of approaches to develop talent and expertise through activities that are voluntary and supportive. The Center is not evaluative and does not participate in personnel-related decisions.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • ​​To provide opportunities to explore ideas, initiate projects, develop products, engage in scholarly research, present at conferences, write articles, integrate instructional technology, and invigorate learning for faculty and students. 
  • To improve teaching and curricula through peer interaction, professional revitalization, and scholarship. 
  • To support creative talents and hard work through reassigned time and through reimbursement funding. 
  • To provide resources which address the complexity of the role of teaching and the challenges posed by a diverse and demanding student population. 
  • To explore areas such as the student/faculty relationship, the role of faculty, the role of support services, student/teacher responsibilities, case studies, collaborative learning, learning styles, critical thinking, ethical issues, building community in and out of the classroom, diversity, classroom assessment and assessment of learning outcomes. 
  • To support faculty in their efforts to teach enthusiastically, with the latest discipline knowledge, instructional practices, and technological advances. 
  • To coordinate with the Director of Grants and Special Projects to assist faculty in finding and applying for external grants. 
  • To provide opportunities for teaching faculty to explore student learning and ways to enhance it in the classroom. 
  • To assist and support faculty as they implement individual goals and plans for improving student learning. 
  • To bring research about teaching to the attention of the college community. 
  • To encourage and support faculty involvement in research and the scholarship of teaching and learning. 
  • To offer course development assistance at any stage: planning, teaching, evaluation. 
  • To foster instructional innovation. 
  • To advocate and recognize excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership. 
  • To offer support for leadership growth that will strengthen TCC’s learning environment.
                
 

 Membership

 
  • Seven faculty members with at least one faculty member from each academic division and the Library
  • One representative of the Learning Commons
  • One representative of the Center for Distance Learning
  • One managerial/professional employee
  • One Leadership TCC class member
  • Two classified staff members
  • One representative from Workforce Development​
 

 Membership Selection & Length of Service

 

The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction will solicit membership and coordinator nominations.  The Academic Planning Committee will select the members and the coordinator. Board members will serve two-year staggered appointments.


 

 Board Chair Responsibilities

 

Communicate, Plan, and Evaluate

  • Meet with Director of CTLL on a weekly basis. 
  • Develop monthly meeting agenda with Director and work with Program Specialist to ensure all materials are provided for monthly CTLL meetings.
  • Work with Communications Specialist to make sure minutes are updated and sent out to the board.
  • Participate in planning meetings to discuss CTLL goals, mission, and philosophy.
  • Solicit input and feedback to help further the mission of the CTLL.
  • Assist Director in establishing and evaluating a strategic plan.
  • Assist Director in establishing and evaluating an annual operational plan.
  • Assist Director in establishing and reviewing guidelines and criteria for CTLL programs.
  • Approve and amend the CTLL Guidelines and other official CTLL documents. 
  • Attend and present evaluation at the annual ACP meeting in April.
  • Assist with other special projects as needed.
  • Assist Director and Program Specialist with the annual Year End Assessment and/or Program Review.

Oversee Program Processes

  • Lead monthly CTLL board meetings.
  • Work with the Director to assist in coordinating the faculty fellowship program to help fellow faculty members earn approval of fellowship proposals by clarifying the process as needed.
  • Review the faculty fellow applications, which move forward for Administrative approval; assess and revise the faculty fellowship program to help fellow faculty members earn approval of fellowship proposals by clarifying the process as needed.
  • Coordinate the mini-grant approval process and strive to enhance the mini-grant program.
  • Lead or host seminars and workshops, as needed.
  • Coordinate TCC Leadership, NISOD, Chair Academy and other voting processes for the Board.
  • Develop policies for the board.​
 

 Board Member Responsibilities

 

  • Assist Director in establishing and evaluating a strategic plan.
  • Assist Director in establishing and evaluating an annual operational plan.
  • Approve and amend the CTLL Guidelines and other official CTLL documents.
  • Actively support the mission, purpose, and philosophy of the CTLL.
