The following frequently asked questions and answers will help students prepare for New Student Orientation at Tallahassee Community College.
I am seeking a certificate here at TCC. Do I need to attend orientation?
No. Only new students, continuing dual enrollment students, and transfer students are required to complete the orientation requirements.
If I am a non-degree seeking student or a transient student, do I need to attend orientation?
No. Only new, first time in college students, continuing dual enrollment students, and new transfer students to TCC are required to complete the orientation requirements.
If I was a dual enrolled high school student at TCC, do I still need to complete the New Student Orientation requirements?
Yes. There are new policies and procedures you must learn now that you are a high school graduate. Once you graduate from high school, you will need to reapply and complete a residency affidavit before completing the orientation requirements. For more information, please e-mail Doris Pleas

Is childcare provided during orientation?
Children at New Student Orientation is a personal, family decision. However, please note that the length of the orientation program may not be appropriate for young children. Parents are encouraged to make other arrangements for young children to help ensure that all new students have the opportunity to learn and be engaged in the orientation programming. In accordance with the TCC College Policy 03-19, the College assumes no responsibility in the supervision of children of students and unsupervised children are not allowed on campus.
What do I need to bring to orientation?
Before orientation, be sure all admissions documents are submitted
. Bring a photo ID to check-in for orientation. It will also be helpful to have any academic paperwork (transcripts, test scores, etc.) that you need to turn in or that may be helpful in selecting your courses. Since afternoon showers are frequent in Florida, bring an umbrella to stay dry while walking around campus.
What do I need to wear during orientation?
Dress is casual during orientation. Just be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to accommodate plenty of walking around! Temperatures vary in Tallahassee depending on the time of the year, and afternoon showers are common. We suggest bringing a sweater or jacket and an umbrella.
Where do I park for orientation?
You can park in any of the parking lots on campus labeled "Student Parking." We recommend students arrive to orientation early to get a parking spot close to the building. Campus maps
are available online.
Where is check-in for orientation located?
The check-in location for orientation will be in the same building as the orientation program. This location can vary on campus depending on the time of the year; see our campus map
for more information. There will be signs on campus directing you to the orientation location that day. The program will begin promptly on time, so be sure to plan ahead for check-in time, time to park and possible traffic. Students who arrive too late in the day may be asked to reschedule orientation. Orientation begins at the stated time and ends by the ending time. Orientation is NOT a walk-in program.
Do my parents or guests need to register for orientation?
No, parents and guests do not need register to attend orientation with the TCC student.
Can I bring my parents with me to my on-campus orientation?
Parents are welcome at orientation! We understand parents play an important role in choosing a college, and parents may have specific questions about a student's college experience.
What if I need to change my on-campus orientation date?
To change your orientation date, please contact the Admissions and Enrollment Services office at (850) 201-8555.
What if I can't attend any of the on-campus orientation dates?
Will I be able to get a good schedule of classes if I attend a later orientation date?
Classes fill on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recommend students attend orientation early so they have the best possible choice for courses and course times.
Does it matter which on-campus orientation session I attend?
Students should be sure to register for an orientation that corresponds with the semester they intend to begin classes. The earlier students attends orientation, the more options they have for course selection.
How do I register for an orientation session?

How long is the orientation?
The length of the orientation session depends on the semester. Orientations for the spring and summer semesters typically last from 12-4 p.m. Orientations for the fall semester typically last from 12 -4 p.m. When picking your orientation date, please be sure to select a date that will allow you to be in attendance for the entire orientation. Orientation is not a drop in program.
I'm transferring to TCC from another school. Am I still required to do orientation?
Yes. All new students, including transfers, are required to attend orientation. All schools do things just a bit differently, and we want to ensure student success by informing all students of the policies and procedures specific to TCC.
Is orientation mandatory?
Yes, all new students to Tallahassee Community College are required to attend orientation. At orientation, students will meet with an academic adviser, register for classes, learn important TCC policies and more.
How much does it cost to attend orientation?
Orientation is free. To attend orientation, students should register for their date of choice. Registration instructions and orientation dates for the upcoming semester can be found on the orientation web site.
