New Start Scholarship

New Start Scholarship in Memory of David & Nancy Lawrence

The New Start Scholarship in Memory of David and Nancy Lawrence was established to assist young individuals who have had involvement with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and who want to create a New Start by attending Tallahassee Community College. The scholarship is supported by a large number of members of the community who believe that with a New Start, these students can and will turn their lives around

The Award:

This scholarship is a two-year award for in-state tuition (up to 60 credit hours) and full book expenses or upon completion of an A.A., A.S. degree or program certification, whichever comes first. Students who are selected will be supported and guided by the faculty and staff of the college to ensure success and completion of their education.

The Requirements:

  • Candidates must have had involvement with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice but not with the Department of Corrections.
  • Candidates must submit the TCC online scholarship application.

Recipient requirements to maintain the New Start Scholarship:

  • Must be enrolled at TCC and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the College and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • Must take a minimum of six hours during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Must complete 67% of classes attempted. Attempted hours include all college preparatory courses, withdrawals, incomplete courses, unsatisfactory (failures) grades, and transfer credit hours, failure to do so may result in revocation of the scholarship.
  • Must complete their program of study before attempting more than 150 percent of the total credit hours required for the program.

Recipients agree:

  • To be featured in TCC newsletters and/or speak at TCC Foundation events if called upon.
  • Attend the annual Donor-Recipient event hosted by the TCC Foundation.
  • Maintain periodic contact with assigned mentor and academic advisor.
  • Participate in Fostering Achievement Fellowship (FAF) activities (if recommended by their advisor or mentor).
