TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 14, 2017) - The Parade of Nations is the first event of International Education Week at Tallahassee Community College, November 13 through 17. As a part of the parade, students gathered around the flagpole in the Louis Hill Sr. Garden as they held their home country’s flag. One by one, the students introduced themselves in their native language as a beautiful display of cultural diversity.
Chaquan Marlin Virginia, international student from St. Maarten and student activities coordinator of TCC’s International Student Organization, reflected on the bond of community he experiences at TCC. He elaborated on what it means to be among a diverse student body and added that, “We have different upbringings, traditions, religions, experiences, which makes us all unique. So we shouldn’t change who we are just to fit societal standards.”
Students joined each other around the flagpole to wave their flags in unison to conclude the Parade of Nations.
