Tallahassee Community College has announced Soar Ahead, a new accelerated Associate of Arts (AA) degree program which provides the option to graduate with an AA degree in just one year. Soar Ahead has been designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year bachelor’s degree program and would like to accelerate the timeline for earning their AA degree, which traditionally takes two years to complete.
Soar Ahead features condensed course timelines of just eight weeks each, which means a student can complete up to 24 credit hours of coursework in a traditional 16-week semester. It is important to note that while the timeline is condensed, the amount of coursework and learning outcomes are the same as in traditional 16-week courses. Program participants will follow a guided academic plan and course schedule, taking a total of 24 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester, which are divided into eight-week sessions, and 12 total credit hours in the Summer semester, therefore earning the 60 credit hours required to earn an AA degree.
While not required, due to the rigorous nature of the program, it is recommended that a student enter the program with at least a 3.0 unweighted high school grade point average. As Soar Ahead gives students the opportunity to complete an AA degree in one year, they can complete a bachelor’s degree in only three years.
Information sessions will be held for interested students and their families beginning on Tuesday, April 26. For more information and to sign up for an information session, visit https://www.tcc.fl.edu/academics/accelerated-learning/soar-ahead/.
