Financial Aid for Summer

Students attending Summer term may receive a financial aid award if the following criteria are met:

  • You must have completed the FAFSA and have an Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) or Student Aid Report (SAR) on file with the Financial Aid Office.
  • You must be fully admitted to a degree seeking program of study.
  • You must meet TCC’s Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid.
SUMMER ENROLLMENT STATUS
ENROLLMENT STATUS CREDIT HOURS
Full-time 12 or more credit hours
Three-quarter time 9-11 credit hours
Half-time 6-8 credit hours
Less than half-time 1-5 credit hours

Actual enrollment status will be determined at the end of the drop/add periods for the session you are enrolled. This will be one factor used in calculating the actual award amount you are eligible for. The estimated award may be revised if the final enrollment status is different from the initial enrollment status used to calculate your award.

If you were awarded Federal Pell Grant prior to the start of the main Summer term, then your Pell Grant eligibility will be determined by the credit hours enrolled at the end of the Summer Main drop/add period.

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Pell Grants are available for Summer term even if you have previously used the initial amount for which you were eligible. The U.S. Department of Education has authorized institutions to award up to 150% of the Federal Pell Grant for which a student qualifies in an award year. Most students will need to enroll in at least six eligible hours to qualify for the additional funds. A limited number of students, who did not fully utilize their Federal Pell Grant in the Fall and/or Spring terms, may qualify for a less than half-time Federal Pell Grant. Students who have reached their Federal Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Usage cannot receive further Federal Pell Grant funds.

Federal Direct Loans

The Financial Aid Office awards loans to eligible students for the entire academic year in the initial award. Since TCC awards loans for Fall, Spring and Summer terms in the initial award, and if the student’s decision was to consolidate loans into Fall and Spring, no further funds are available for Summer. New students to the Summer term who have completed the FAFSA will be awarded loans for Summer only. The Federal Government requires the College to disburse the loan in two payments: one at the beginning of the term and one occurring after the midpoint of the term. All students receiving loans must be enrolled in six eligible credit hours of courses required to complete their TCC degree program. For the loan to disburse, you must have attendance verified by your professor in at least six eligible credit hours of courses required to complete your TCC degree program.

Bright Futures

Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholars and Florida Bright Futures Medallion Scholars eligible for Fall and Spring awards may receive a Summer award if all of the following criteria are met:

· You must be a degree-seeking student

· You must be accepted into your program of study

· You must enroll in a minimum of 6 eligible credit hours of courses required to complete your TCC degree program

Funding is limited to 45 credit hours within an academic year.

The $300 college-related expense for Academic Scholars is NOT available for Summer.

Summer funding is not available for Florida Bright Futures Gold Seal Vocational or Florida Bright Futures Gold Seal Cape Scholars.

Summer Federal Work Study

Summer Federal Work Study funds are available until June 30th. Please notify the Financial Aid Office if you wish to participate in the Federal Work Study program.

Summer Disbursements

Disbursements for Summer will begin after attendance for eligible classes is verified by your professor. If attendance is verified in increments, then multiple disbursements of aid will occur within the Summer term.
