Our TCC Wakulla Center

The Wakulla Center is known as one of TCC’s “Two Gateways in Wakulla County.” Wakulla County has been part of TCC’s service district since 1966. TCC’s Division of Workforce established the Wakulla Environmental Institute (WEI) and a broader workforce-focused service center model. The two facilities are located about three miles apart.

Programs Offered

Certified Phlebotomy Technician

TCC is excited to offer a Certified Phlebotomy Technician course at the TCC Gadsden Center. This course prepares students to enter the healthcare industry as Certified Phlebotomy Technicians and includes theory and hands-on instruction. Individuals are trained in technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy, including venipuncture and collection of blood specimens required to become a Phlebotomy Technician. For successful course completion, students must complete a minimum of 30 venipuncture and 10 capillary live sticks. Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn a BLS/First Aid Certification and the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). 

Length: 75 hours

Requirements:

Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED equivalency.

  • 2/13/2023-3/31/2023 Mondays - Fridays 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., plus clinical days
  • 4/3/2023-6/2/2023 Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., plus clinical days

Course Cost: $895

Home Health Aide

The Home Health Aide course at the TCC Gadsden Center prepares students to enter the healthcare industry in an entry-level position as a Home Health Aide. Individuals employed in this field provide routine individualized healthcare to patients who are elderly, recovering from an illness, or have disabilities. They also monitor and report changes in the health status of their patients, and provide personal care and companionship. The program provides students with both classroom and laboratory instruction. Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn a BLS/First Aid Certification and a Certificate of Completion required for employment in a Medicaid facility.

Length: 75 hours

Course Dates: 

  • 2/20/2023-3/31/2023 Mondays-Fridays 2:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
  • 4/3/2023-6/2/2023 Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Course Cost: $550

Medical Administrative Specialist

The Medical Administrative Specialist Career and Technical Certificate program will prepare students for an entry-level career as a Medical Administrative Specialist in a variety of healthcare settings including private medical practices, clinics, hospitals, public health departments, government agencies, or insurance firms. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive the following certifications: CPR/BLS, Microsoft Office Specialist, and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA). Eligible students enrolled in the program can receive federal financial aid and funding opportunities through the Sunshine Health Scholarship.

Length: 1,050 hours, approximately 1 year to complete

Course Dates: Classes begin February 20, 2023 Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., plus additional hours online

Course Cost: approx. $3,476.25 in-state tuition 

GED Classes

The TCC Wakulla Center offers online GED classes for registered individuals. All prospective GED students must take the TABE test.

Proctored Testing

The TCC Wakulla Center conveniently offers a variety of testing services.  Testing services include:

  • Access to webcam for HonorLock testing for online students
  • Distance Learning testing for students of other universities and colleges
  • PERT Testing for college admissions
  • HESI-2 Testing
  • PAN (PSI) Testing
  • TABE Testing

The Wakulla Center offers the HESI-A2 Admission Test, which is the required entrance exam for all students applying to certain Healthcare Programs at TCC. To be considered for admission, TCC programs require a minimum score of 75 percent in each required section of the exam. The HESI-A2 requires 24-hour advance scheduling in order to guarantee availability. The cost for the HESI-A2 is $47 payable on-site.

The TCC Wakulla Center offers the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). TABE tests can be scheduled Monday - Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. 

All tests require a minimum of 24 hours of advance scheduling in order to guarantee availability.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Financial aid and scholarships are available for eligible students. Visit the TCC Financial Aid & Scholarship office or access the scholarship application offered through Tallahassee Community College.

Other payment options may be available to help you in covering the cost of training.  

Learning Commons

The Wakulla Center Learning Commons is an extension of the Learning Commons located at the Main Campus. Services include:

  • Dedicated study space
  • Study resource guides
  • Tutoring
  • Reference documents
  • Medical tools
  • Writing style guides

Access is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tutoring is available by appointment only and is available for all classes currently offered through TCC.

Services for Job Seekers

The TCC Wakulla Center houses a fully equipped computer lab to connect Wakulla job seekers with the online job search process. Computers can be used to access online applications, develop cover letters and resumes and find out more about training opportunities to advance your career. Staff is available to review your resume and offer tips and suggestions on improving your job search.
