Program Description

Tallahassee Community College has partnered with Zahn Associates, Inc. to deliver the both online and traditional face-to-face classes. The online program allows you to work from your personal computer, at your own pace, allowing you 90 days to complete each course. Traditional face-to-face are offered throughout the year at various cities through the country.

Program Outline

The full program (either online or a traditional face-to-face offering) consists of 7 courses that can be taken and paid for individually to allow for reimbursement in-between modules.

General Principles

38 hours - $595.00

Designed to introduce students to the financial planning process. The course focuses on the general principles required to become a successful financial planner which include the ethics of the profession as well as the knowledge and skills required to prepare a financial plan.

Insurance Planning

38 hours - $595.00

Designed to acquaint students with the principles of risk management and various types of insurance including casualty, fire, health, life, auto, home, disability. The principles taught prepare students to identify a client's risk exposure and select appropriate risk management techniques.

Investment Planning

38 hours - $595.00

Introduces the wide variety of investment vehicles that may be included in a client's portfolio. Topics include client assessment, tax considerations, economic factors, valuation methods, asset allocation techniques, portfolio performance evaluation, and more.

Income Tax Planning

38 hours - $595.00

Emphasizes the fundamentals of individual income taxation, the tax implications of various types of businesses, tax-advantaged investments, employee compensation issues and planning, alternative minimum tax, tax traps, and more.

Retirement Planning

38 hours - $595.00

Provides a complete overview of retirement planning including retirement savings need analysis, qualified retirement plan design, Social Security, Medicare, and more. In addition, group life, health, and disability insurance; non-qualified deferred compensation; and other commonly provided employee benefits are examined.

Estate Planning

38 hours - $595.00

Covers planning and managing federal estate and gift tax planning and opportunities. The perspectives of a variety of parties are considered including heirs, fiduciaries, estates, trusts, beneficiaries, donors, and donees. Topics include asset valuation, estate tax deductions, exemptions and credits. Significant time is given to the transfer of amount at death and the dispositive tools available to clients.

Capstone

45 hours - $695.00

The Financial Plan Development Capstone course will integrate the material in all previous program modules. Students will take this course only when they have finished all previous program modules successfully or meet CFP Board criteria for challenge status. This course will be structured as a casework course with cases that will closely reflect the types of cases students may encounter as financial planner.  Students will be required to submit a written plan and present orally.

Tallahassee Community College does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and certification marks. CFP® certification is granted solely by CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Board of Standards, Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP® Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
