TCC announces new Deans for Academic Divisions

Bryan Hooper Headshot Tallahassee Community College is announcing new deans for the positions of the Dean of Behavioral, Social Sciences and Education (BSSE), the Dean of Communications and Humanities (CH), and the Dean of Science and Mathematics (SM). Each dean will effectively begin their new role at TCC on July 1.

 

Dr. Bryan Hooper will serve as the Dean of Behavioral, Social Sciences and Education. Hooper previously served as the Associate Dean of Behavioral Social Sciences and Education at TCC since 2017. In this role, he has led multiple initiatives and committees focused on continuous improvement and helping students succeed. Prior to that role, Dr. Hooper was Lead Faculty and Program Coordinator for the College Success and First Year Experience, Associate Professor for College Success, and the TRIO Program Specialist.

 

His career path combined with his own experience as a first-generation college student gave him a unique window into the challenges and barriers faced by students labeled as “at-risk.” This experience has imbued him with a passion to advocate for the increase in resources and removal of barriers for these students in efforts to promulgate equity and foster their educational success.

 

Dr. Hooper obtained his Doctorate of Public Health with specializations in Maternal & Fetal, as well as Behavioral Health Promotion from Florida A&M University, a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida A&M University.

 

Donmetrie Clark Headshot Donmetrie Clark will serve as the Dean of Communications and Humanities. Clark previously served as the Associate Dean of Communications and Humanities Division since 2016. He currently is a consultant for Educational Testing Service (ETS), Advanced Placement English Literature Examination Question Leader and Advanced Placement Course Audit Reviewer. For the last 16 years, Clark also served as a reader, table leader, and question leader for the Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition examination.

 

Clark said he strongly believes in students being successful.

 

“In order to connect with students, you must see them as human beings, but the trick is allowing them to see the human being in you as a professor,” Clark said. “This connection then paves the way for students to be successful.”

 

Clark obtained his Master of Education from Florida A&M University with a concentration in Literature, Composition, and English Education with additional coursework in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education.

 

Kalynda Holton HeadshotKalynda Holton will serve as the Dean of Science and Mathematics. Holton previously served as the Associate Dean of Science and Mathematics since 2016 working closely with faculty to promote high standards of excellence in the division activities and set exemplary professional standards.

 

Holton has worked at TCC for more than 14 years, where she has served as the Co-Lead for the accelerated degree plan – Flex Path, Co-coordinator of Mathematics Corequisite Workshop, Coordinator Lumen Workshop Series for Math Faculty, Coordinator of the Weekend College, FYE Navigator Mentor, ACE Women’s Network Florida North Region, International Day for Women and Girls in Science Board Member, Tallahassee Science Festival Board Member, and Math Champions co-founder.

 

Holton obtained her Master of Education and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Florida A&M University.
