Sister to Sister Hosts “I Am Woman” Speaker Series

TCC Logo on exterior of Administration BuildingTallahassee Community College’s chapter of Sister to Sister will host a “I Am Woman” speaker series in celebration of Women’s History Month. Each event will happen virtually from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The series will kick off on March 9 with “Turn It Around! Surviving Trauma,” featuring Jeanine Herrington from Jacksonville, Fla. She is the founder of Messy Miracles Inc., an organization created for the survivors of violent crimes. The organization puts emphasis on healing and everyday techniques for happy and healthy living. Herrington is a survivor, author, certified professional life coach and life speaker. She is a graduate of Alabama State University and Southern University Law School. She now owns a successful law practice in Jacksonville, Fla.

March 23 will feature Pamela Jones-Smith who will present “Business Success in Male-Dominated Industries.” Jones-Smith is the founder and CEO of BERNEXIS Construction and Development LLC, a 100 percent woman-owned commercial construction management and design firm serving North Florida and its surrounding areas. She has more than 20 years of specialized experience in construction and real estate operations. Her accomplishments continue to generate value for her business, community, and real estate stakeholders. She is a graduate of Florida State University.

March 30 will feature Dianne Williams-Cox presenting “Know Your Voting Rights.”  Cox, a native of Gadsden County, has been an advocate for enhanced women’s rights, such as equal pay and eliminating workplace harassment. She has been the voice of her community, speaking out against the failing schools on the Southside of Tallahassee and encouraging City Commissioners to take meetings into the city neighborhoods. Her advocacy has led to her creating the Southside United Citizens Action Alliance, an organization bringing citizens together to identify and educate others on issues and potential solutions on the Southside. In 2018, she was elected to serve as a City Commissioner in District 5. Cox is a graduate of Florida A&M University and a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Sister to Sister is a mentoring program for female students of color at Tallahassee Community College. Members benefit from mentoring, leadership development, social development, academic support, and career guidance. While minority students are the focus, all female students are welcome and invited to join the sisterhood.
