Community Service, Volunteerism & Peer Support Programs

The Office of Student Volunteerism engages TCC students, faculty and staff by promoting involvement in volunteerism and service-learning programs. For students, OSV serves as the base for finding out about service opportunities in the Big Bend area and beyond. For faculty and staff, OSV serves to assist with strategies designed to connect community service to classroom curriculum through its service learning program.

The focus of the Office of Student Volunteerism is to enrich academic learning, foster civic engagement, and confront issues of public concern while improving the well being of the communities served by Tallahassee Community College. This focus is met by providing community service opportunities for students and faculty, promoting the linking the service to the curriculum, and by collaborating with community -based organizations on community improvement projects and programs throughout Florida.

Volunteer Opportunities

OSV offers a list of community agencies (msword 212.00 kB)  that are currently in need of volunteers. In addition, students can check weekly for listings of short-term volunteer opportunities  (msword 175.50 kB) and information about sponsored service trips. For more information or to discuss which agency/organization is right for you, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Service-Learning Resources

There are many benefits for students and faculty involved in service-learning courses. The OSV offers resources to help students understand the elements involved in service-learning and to help faculty develop courses to fully integrate service into the classroom. Service Learning is a structured educational activity, program or curriculum that engages student with the community in order to address identified needs while reinforcing academic achievement to create an activity that changes both the student and the provider. Service Learning includes academic preparation, work activities needed by the community, and structured reflection. The resources available can aid students and faculty in each of these areas.

TallyScript

The TallyScript (pdf 142.59 kB)  program at Tallahassee Community College is an opportunity for you to record your volunteer community service hours on your official TCC transcript. Your academic transcript is a direct reflection of your college career to potential employers and four-year institutions.
