What is an Internship?

An internship is a position designed to provide professional training, experience and opportunities for students and adults who wish to learn more about a particular career field or industry. Internships can be paid, unpaid or partially paid positions that are temporary in nature.

What Businesses Work with the TCC Internship Office?

The TCC Internship Office works with nearly 300 employers offering numerous types of internship experiences.

What Should Students do to Secure an Internship?

Students interested in obtaining an internship should be fully committed to the entire process. Interns are expected to:

  • Complete the online internship application located in your “My Resources ” tab of the TCC Passport
  • Submit a resume to an internship coordinator. Check out our "Get Help Now"  tab for resume assistance
  • Meet with an internship coordinator to discuss academic, internship and career goals

How are Students Evaluated During an Internship?

Students are enrolled into the internship course, IDS 2941 (TPP Internship). This course will track their progress while interning. Additionally, students are evaluated by his/her internship supervisor on technical and professional performance. These reports weigh heavily on a student’s final grade in the internship course.

Students majoring in Engineering, Architecture and Engineering Technology  should contact the Division of Technology and Professional Programs at: (850) 201-8352.

Interns are expected to do the following:

  • Complete a minimum of 150 work hours throughout the semester
  • Successfully complete the three-credit hour internship course (msword 27.00 kB) . Internship coordinators enroll students in the web-based course at any time and once an internship has been accepted.
  • Be punctual and conscientious about work times and days; excessive tardiness or sick days will result in being removed from the internship
  • Have a positive attitude toward co-workers and all employees affiliated with internship site
  • Maintain accuracy, thoughtfulness and attention to detail while working on any projects or assigned tasks
  • Remain completely professional at all times; interns are a direct representative of TCC

Completion of an internship or internship course is in no way guaranteed. TCC reserves the right to terminate an internship and no credit will be received if the following occurs. Grounds for termination include but are not limited to:

  • insufficient performance by the intern
  • violation of the supervising internship site or TCC’s policies
  • unprofessional behavior of any kind

In rare instances, it may be necessary to terminate an internship because of no fault of the intern. In these cases, other arrangements are sought to provide the intern with a meaningful opportunity to complete the internship.
