FPSI attends Women in Law Enforcement Conference

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 19, 2013) – Earlier this month, Robert Mixon, advanced and specialized training coordinator at Tallahassee Community College’s Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI), attended the inaugural Women in Law Enforcement conference in Nashville, Tenn.

The three-day event, hosted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, was titled “Women Breaking the Glass Shield,” and attracted more than 200 women in law enforcement.

Mixson attended in order to raise awareness of and promote the services and training available at FPSI.

“FPSI proudly supports this great event and the female criminal justice officers who protect and serve their communities,” said Mixson. “This conference demonstrates how the field of law enforcement is ever-changing with great role models to inspire women to prepare for future leadership roles.”

According to Mixson, the conference brought together women from over 68 different agencies nationwide.

The event also included presentations from Director Stacia Hylton of the U. S. Marshal Service, Lt. Colonel Brenda Leffler of the Colorado State Patrol, Dr. Bobby Smith and Vanderbilt Police Chief August J. Washington.
