New Accounts Clerk

New accounts clerks interview people who desire to open accounts in financial institutions. They answer questions and explain account services such as deposit accounts, bonds and securities to prospective customers, and assist them in preparing applications. New account clerks also inform customers of procedures for applying for services such as ATM cards, direct deposit of checks, and certificates of deposit.

Business Management and Accounting Programs

Work Conditions

New account clerks work in offices in banks and other financial institutions. Most new accounts clerks work regular business hours and a standard 40-hour week. They may be required to sit for long periods of time as they work with customers at their desk.

Employment Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of new accounts clerks is expected to experience little to no change or between 2010 and 2020.
